Free Citadelum Campaign IV: The Gallic Wars

Ave, Julius Caesar’s Gallic Wars (58-50 BCE) remain a pivotal chapter in Roman history, a testament to his military genius and a catalyst for profound societal change in Gaul. More than mere territorial expansion, these campaigns were a brutal yet effective engine of Romanization, laying the groundwork for centuries of Roman dominance north of the Alps. This period, meticulously documented in Caesar’s own Commentarii de Bello Gallico, which has been our main inspiration for Citadelum new content, offers invaluable insight into Roman military strategy, logistical prowess, and the complex interplay between conquest and cultural assimilation. The Gallic Wars introduces a new biome, the autumn forest, which adds more variety to the game (on top of Peninsula Italica, Africa, Hispania, Snow and Swamps biomes). Enjoy a new region map, more challenging missions and battle scenarios set in Gallia, where you will confront the fearsome leader Vercingetorix. Beyond the grand battles, the Gallic Wars were a relentless...

What are the types of gladiators

What are the types of gladiators

Gladiators in ancient Rome fought in the arena for the entertainment of the citizens. They were divided into classes according to their function, the weapons and armor they wore, and each of them had a function within the show. The retiarius is a type of gladiator armed with a net and a trident. While the former allowed him to knock down and immobilize enemies, the trident offered him the possibility of launching attacks at a certain distance. The retiarii (plural of retiarius) also carried a dagger or pugio to resolve close-range melee confrontations. Their armor was light and was limited to an armlet and shoulder pad, with which to cover one of their flanks. He could face other types of gladiators such as the secutor or the murmillo.   The secutor wore plate armor in the shape of scales. For that reason the confrontation with the retiarius was compared to fishing. He was...

Build Rome, share Rome, play Rome. Citadelum editor

Build Rome, share Rome, play Rome. Citadelum editor

Ave Dominus, Citadelum will be out next October 17th, and the team is working full steam ahead in the final touches, some bug fixing and polishing. We are truly excited about the final result, you will be able to play very soon on Steam. But today, I want to share something on a personal side. Since Citadelum editor was announced, I let my imagination fly with the possibilities included. It is not only about playing Campaign. Sandbox or Battle modes, but giving the player the power to create their own maps and campaigns, and share them with the community, is something huge. This is a unique opportunity to recreate some of the lesser known episodes of the roman empire, or even to change History at will. What I did, even before I had access to the game, was researching some Historical events I would love to play. I am not spoiling the surprise...
